How to negotiate, with Jonathan Powell

On this week’s podcast, former Chief of Staff to Prime Minister Tony Blair, Jonathan Powell, joined Louise Duffy to talk about how to negotiate with impact.

Jonathan shared his insights on how the lessons he’s learned from international negotiations can be applied to any context.

As well as acting as the first-ever Chief of Staff to a UK Prime Minister, Jonathan was the chief British negotiator on Northern Ireland from 1997 – 2007 – playing a key part in negotiating the Good Friday Agreement.

He currently runs, Inter Mediate, an NGO that specialising in conflict resolution across the globe.

In a previous life, Jonathan was a British diplomat from 1979 to 1994.

He was a member of negotiating teams that worked on s on the return of Hong Kong to the Chinese, the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe (CSCE) human rights talks with the Soviet Union, and the Two plus Four talks on German Unification and the G7.
